Virtual Teams

Why is it that some teams work great this way and others fail? I’ve had experience with both yet I cannot pin point what separates the successful ones from the failures.

Thoughts?

The W.P. Carey online MBA program brings everyone together for a few days before they start their program. They hope this "offline" meeting will help teams create bonds and help them work effectively. Not sure it's as effective as working together in the same space but it's an interesting tactic.
  • Very few virtual teams do well. Communication is hard enough when someone sits in the same room with you much less when they are a few time zones away.

Teams that succeed virtually have a high trust between members and have learned to effectively communicate despite their separated location.

    My two cents.
